Upgrading to AMA after CMA Expiration
State law requires working Certified Minnesota Assessors (CMA) or Certified Minnesota Assessor Specialists (CMAS) to progress to an Accredited Minnesota Assessor (AMA) within five years of receiving their initial license.
If you do not meet this AMA deadline, your CMA or CMAS license will become inactive. (See Assessor Accreditation Deadline.)
Upgrading to AMA License
You must complete the AMA Education Requirements to upgrade to an AMA license from a CMA or CMAS. The timing of your AMA application will determine the next steps:
- Upgrading within a four-year cycle: Submit an AMA application and pay the application fee.
- Upgrading after the start of a new four-year cycle: First, complete all the continuing education requirements for the previous four-year cycle, including the Ethics seminar. Then submit an AMA application and pay the application fee.
-
Upgrading after not being licensed for five years or more: First, complete and pass the exam for the Assessment Laws and Procedures course, and complete all the continuing education requirements for the previous four-year cycle, including the Ethics seminar. Then submit an AMA application and pay the application fee.
The AMA application is located on the Assessors Licensing System. You must sign in to access the application.
AMA applications will be approved as soon as they are reviewed by the board’s program administrator.
