You can generally get help at a VITA site if any of these apply:
- You are age 60 or older
- You are a person with a disability
- You speak limited or no English
- Your annual income is less than $64,000
AARP Tax-Aide sites do not have income or age restrictions. All sites only prepare basic returns (IRS website). For help with complicated returns, consult a professional preparer.
Use the Find a Free Tax Preparation Site tool on this page to find sites based on your ZIP code or county. You can:
- Use the Language menu to find sites where help is available in Spanish, Hmong, Somali, or other languages
- Use the Military Certified checkbox if you're a military service member
Try our interactive map to search by your address. You can also zoom in and select sites on the map.
You must bring a picture ID and other personal information along with any records showing income you received, tax-deductible expenses, and property tax or rental payments you made. For more information, review these detailed lists.
We update our search tool and interactive map regularly to provide current site information. Most free tax preparations sites operate from February 1 to April 15. Some sites stay open through October 15.
When choosing a site:
- Make sure you're eligible for the program that operates the site (VITA or AARP Tax-Aide), which is listed in your search results. Review the Who Qualifies section on this page for details.
- Review the site information before visiting or making an appointment. The organizations that provide this service may change their site hours, dates, or service options.
- If you have questions or need help finding a site, call us at 651-296-3781 or 1-800-652-9094.
