Trainee and Temporary Assessor Licenses

The State Board of Assessors requires all individuals, who are actively working under a licensed Minnesota Assessor, to be licensed by the board.

Individuals who do full-time assessment work for an assessor’s office are required to:
Registration allows us to help track the progress of meeting the requirements necessary for licensure.
Note: Individuals working for an assessor as an intern for a short time are not required to be registered with the board as a trainee.
Trainee Registration Requirements
To register, you'll need an Employment Verification Letter, verifying the start date and a brief description of the job duties, signed by either a licensed supervisor or county assessor.
Submit your Trainee Application and pay the fee in the Assessors Licensing System. The board's program administrator reviews and approves trainee applications, which do not require full board approval.
Certified General Fee Appraisers licensed by the Minnesota Department of Commerce may qualify for a temporary certified Minnesota assessor (CMA Income Qualified) license.
Temporary License Requirements
For a temporary license you'll need:

Temporary License Holders
When you have a temporary license, remember:
A current or former member of the military, a veteran who has left service in the two years prior to the date of a license application, or the spouse of a current member of the military may also receive a temporary license (as described in Minnesota Statute 197.4552).
