All Minnesota licensed assessors must renew their license yearly by June 30. You must have an active assessor license to do any assessment work starting on July 1. Renew your license using the Assessor Licensing System.
Certain activities may give the appearance of a conflict of interest to the taxpayers of the assessor's jurisdiction. These activities include the performance of fee appraisals, tax representation or consultation, real estate sales, insurance sales, and property management.
If you are an active duty military member, spouse of an active duty military member, or a veteran with confirmation of an honorable or general discharge status within the two years preceding the date of temporary license application, then you may be eligible for an expedited and temporary assessor license from the Board.
The purpose behind the expedited and temporary assessors license is to lessen the burden that former and current military families have when seeking employment in Minnesota. This way, applicants are able to obtain a license and begin working quickly after a relocation.
If you believe you are eligible, please contact the State Board of Assessors at assessors.board@state.mn.us or 651-556-6086 for specific information on the application process.
