Filing Extensions

field_block:node:page:body

If you cannot file your Minnesota income tax return by the regular due date, the Minnesota Department of Revenue allows a filing extension.

COVID-19 Penalty Relief
We granted grace periods for these taxes with due dates in March, April, or May:
     •   2019 Individual Income Tax
     •   Sales and Use Tax
     •   MinnesotaCare taxes
     •   Gambling Tax
     •   Occupation Tax

These grace periods have ended. We will not charge penalty or interest on payments for these taxes as long as we received them by the end date. For details, see Our Response to COVID-19.

You may also ask us to cancel or reduce penalties and interest for late filing or payment if you have a reasonable cause or are negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. See Penalty Abatement for Individuals or Penalty Abatement for Businesses.
