Income Tax Due Dates

field_block:node:page:body

Most people must file their 2023 Minnesota tax return by April 15, 2024. The Minnesota Department of Revenue must receive your return electronically – or have it delivered or postmarked – by that date. If you owe tax, you must pay by that date, even if you file your return later.

If you file by fiscal year, your return and payment are due on the 15th day of the fourth month after your fiscal year ends. If the 15th falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday, we must receive your return and payment by the next business day.

What if I cannot complete and file my return on time?

To avoid a late filing penalty, you must file your return by Oct. 15, 2024. Do not send an incomplete return.

To avoid other penalties and interest, you must pay your tax by the due date. If you do not know your total tax due, you may estimate the amount and pay it by the due date. For payment options or to make a payment, see Make a Payment.

For details, see Minnesota Statute 270C.395.
