ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Revenue is now accepting applications for the following Fiscal Year 2026-2027 grants:

  • Volunteer Taxpayer Assistance Services Grant - $1.25 million per fiscal year
    • Available to eligible organizations who provide volunteer taxpayer assistance services to low-income, elderly, or disadvantaged Minnesotans.
    • The funding will focus on establishing new sites and expanding capacity of existing sites to serve all Minnesotans.

  • Tax Credit Outreach Grant - $1.5 million per fiscal year
    • Available to eligible organizations who publicize and promote Minnesota tax credits to eligible taxpayers.
    • The funding focuses on increasing awareness of important tax benefits that many are not claiming.

“The state has recently made important investments in new tax credits that will help families across Minnesota," said Revenue Commissioner Paul Marquart. "These grant funds will help ensure that Minnesota taxpayers not only know about the credits but are able to get access to free taxpayer assistance organizations that can help them file their returns, so they get all the benefits available to them."

Which organizations qualify for grant funds?

Grant funds are available to qualifying eligible organizations that:

  • Publicize and promote the availability of Minnesota tax credits to taxpayers likely to be eligible for those credits.
  • Provide volunteer taxpayer assistance services to low-income, elderly, or disadvantaged Minnesotans. This includes:
    • Preparing and filing accurate tax returns.
    • Operating efficient volunteer tax preparation sites during the tax season and beyond.
    • Providing high quality training of volunteers and staff who administer and provide volunteer taxpayer assistance services.
    • Collaborating with other organizations to increase services across Minnesota.
    • Expanding services to better serve low-income, elderly, or disadvantaged Minnesotans.

Revenue prioritizes organizations that:

  • Open new in-person sites
  • Commit to expanding services to meet the needs of the community, including Tribal reservations and rural areas
