Minnesota Department of Revenue’s new Sales Tax Rate Map wins two awards

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Minnesota Department of Revenue’s Sales Tax Rate Map won two awards for its innovative concept and design and its clear, effective approach to meeting customer needs.

The Sales Tax Rate Map won a Minnesota State Government Innovation Award for its work in encouraging an environment of experimentation and innovation in Minnesota. The application also won the Center for Plain Language’s ClearMark Award for Digital Apps and Microsites that is presented to the best plain language content created by North American governments, companies, and organizations.

“Dedicated department staff worked diligently to plan and design the map and then used feedback from our customers to make improvements before launching the interactive application that is available today,” said Revenue Commissioner Cynthia Bauerly. “These awards are recognition of the department’s continuous improvement efforts and our customer-centric approach.”

Launched in November 2018, Revenue’s Sales Tax Rate Map is an interactive application that helps customers easily find and calculate the state and local general sales and use tax rate for any location in Minnesota. Sales tax rates can be found by entering an address into the search box or clicking anywhere on the map.

The interactive map was designed for all Revenue customers, including approximately

• 5.5 million consumers that buy goods or services in Minnesota
• 200,000 sellers and marketplace providers that sell goods or services or facilitate sales in Minnesota
