Referring Agencies Common Issues
field_block:node:page:body
Various issues may arise while we are collecting your agency's debts.
field_block:node:page:field_paragraph
If your agency refers debt to the Minnesota Department of Revenue, and the debtor files bankruptcy, you are responsible for filing the claims and reviewing the debts for discharge. In certain situations, Other Agency Debt may be discharged in bankruptcy. For debts not discharged, a bankruptcy may extend the statute of limitations to collect.
If a debtor disputes the referred debt, the Minnesota Department of Revenue refers them back to the referring agency. The agency must notify us if the dispute is valid.
