The Minnesota Department of Revenue may offset (take) certain refunds and payments to apply them to your debt.

We may offset your advance payments of the Child Tax Credit and apply them to your tax debt and non-tax debts you owe to state or referring agencies. If an offset occurs, we will send you a letter to explain what debt the funds were applied to. (See Minnesota Statutes, Chapter 270C and Chapter 16D).
We may offset your federal income tax refunds or federal payments and apply them to pay income tax debts or debt referred to us from other referring agencies. For more information, visit Offset of Federal Funds or Payments.
We may recapture (take) your individual tax refunds or other payments and apply them to debts we're collecting for other state or federal government agencies. We will send you a letter to explain what debt we applied the funds to. For more information, visit Revenue Recapture.
