New law adds the following as prohibited conduct to the list of Standards of Conduct for Paid Preparers:

  • Failing to provide, if required, their Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN).
  • Reporting household income on a property tax refund the preparer knows or should know is inaccurate.
  • Engaging in conduct subject to certain civil penalties.
  • Failing to meet standards of due diligence, competence, and reputable conduct provided in Minnesota Rule 8052.0300.

New law is effective for returns and claims filed after December 31, 2017.
