The Minnesota Department of Revenue offers volunteer opportunities throughout Minnesota to provide tax assistance to people with disabilities, low income, limited English-speaking abilities, and seniors.
We especially need people who speak different languages and can interpret or prepare returns. We need volunteers from January – April 15.
You can learn about taxes and gain valuable work experience while serving your community!
Volunteer opportunities include:
Tax return preparer: Become IRS-certified to prepare income tax returns for Minnesota families.
Quality reviewer: Double-check returns for accuracy.
Administrative assistant: Greet taxpayers and ensure they brought the necessary documents to have their returns prepared.
Language interpreter: Spanish, Hmong, Karen, Vietnamese, Somali, Oromo, and other languages are in high demand.
If you’re interested in volunteering, please complete our online form or call us at 651-556-6389. Please sign up by December 31. Training will be provided in January.
VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Program: VITA provides free tax assistance at community locations (usually evening hours and Saturdays). Volunteers complete simple tax returns for people with disabilities, low income, limited English-speaking abilities, and seniors. This program is supported by the Minnesota Department of Revenue and various community organizations.
