Paying by ACH Credit

Automated Clearing House (ACH) credit is when you request a bill payment through your bank. Some banks charge a fee for this service.
If your bank offers ACH credit services, they will need:
- Your 7-digit Minnesota Tax ID number. Register for a Minnesota ID number if you do not have one.
- Minnesota Department of Revenue banking information. Call us at 651-556-3000 to get this information.
- Your payment information in standard CCD+ file format with the correct addendum.
File Formatting Guidelines For ACH Payments

Your transfer must include information to identify your payment in the ACH standard CCD+ file format. Your bank must use the Tax Payment Banking Convention (TXP) for the addendum record for tax payments. The addendum is a national standard used to provide tax information in defined fields to be transmitted along with the ACH payment transaction.
Common Issues With TXP Payments
- Incorrect ID information - Use your 7-digit Minnesota Tax ID number.
- Formatting issues - You must follow specific formatting requirements when submitting payments. Common formatting issues include:
- Using the incorrect date format. Format all dates as YYMMDD
- Using spaces in the record instead of asterisks as separators (*)
- Including extra separators (*), characters, spaces, or leading zeros
- Missing information - You must include all mandatory information listed in the addendum document for a tax payment
