Local Government Aid (LGA) Certification for Cities

Contact Us

Local Government Aid (LGA) is a general purpose aid that can be used for any lawful expenditure. It is also intended to be used for property tax relief. The Department of Revenue certifies LGA for cities based on current LGA statutes, including any changes enacted during the most recent legislative session.

2014 Certification

The total amount of LGA certified for all cities in 2014 was $507,598,012.

2013 Certification

The total amount of LGA certified for all cities in 2013 was $427,494,640.  The amount of LGA your city receives in 2013 was based on city population:

  • Cities with populations of 5,000 or more receive their 2012 LGA amount in 2013;
  • Cities with populations under 5,000 receive the greater of (1) their 2012 LGA, or (2) the amount they would otherwise get under formula in 2013.

For more information on the 2013 LGA Certification, see Minnesota Laws 2012, Chapter 294.
