Where's My Refund?

Use this system if you filed a return and are expecting a refund. ​ ​ ​

Information is updated overnight, Monday through Friday.


​Will I get more information if I call?

The information in Where's My Refund? is the same information available to our phone representatives when you call.

Which returns are available in Where’s My Refund?*

  • Individual Income Tax
  • Property Tax Refund
  • Amended Individual Income Tax
  • Amended Property Tax Refund
*Only for returns you filed within the last 12 months.

​​When can I start checking my refund status?

For Individual Income Tax returns, wait at least

  • 72 hours for a submitted electronic return
  • 6 weeks for a paper return

For Property Tax Refund returns

  • Minnesota law states that we cannot start processing Property Tax Refund returns until July of each year

  • Check Where’s My Refund? after July 1 for your property tax refund status

  • Electronic returns are processed faster than paper filed returns

Note: Timeframes are based on when we receive your return.

  • Mailing a paper return
  • Not choosing Direct Deposit
  • Errors on a tax return
  • Returns that we identify for additional review


When can I expect my refund?

Using Where’s My Refund?, you can follow your return through our process with a new status bar. When we are finished, you will see the date your refund was sent. Every return we receive is different, so processing time will vary.

Tips for using Where’s My Refund​

Be sure to use the same information from your return:

  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Refund amount

If you did not include your date of birth on your return, you cannot use Where’s My Refund?
