Nongame Wildlife Checkoff

Minnesota taxpayers can make a donation to the state Nongame Wildlife Fund through the checkoff box on their income tax or property tax refund return.

Revenue from the Nongame Wildlife Checkoff supports such activities as habitat protection, conservation research, and coordinating volunteers. These checkoff donations account for more than 80 percent of the funding for nongame wildlife programs run by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

To donate to the Nongame Wildlife Fund, enter your donation amount on the appropriate line – next to the loon symbol – on either of the following Minnesota tax forms:

Form M1, Individual Income Tax return

Form M1PR, Homestead Credit Refund (for Homeowners) and Renter's Property Tax Refund

Note: The amount you donate will lower your refund or raise the amount you owe. Your donation is tax deductible.

Donate directly to the Nongame Wildlife Fund:

If you want, you can also make a direct donation to the Nongame Wildlife Fund. For more information, go to “Donating to Nongame Wildlife” on the DNR website.
