Most people must file their 2016 tax return by April 18, 2017. We must receive your return electronically – or it must be delivered or postmarked – by that date. If you owe tax, you must pay by April 18, even if you file your return later. (This is later than the traditional April 15 date because of the Emancipation Day holiday in Washington, D.C.)
If you file by fiscal year, your return and payment are due on the 15th day of the fourth month after your fiscal year ends. If the 15th falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday, we must receive your return and payment by the next business day.
