Credit for Parents of Stillborn Children

Beginning in tax year 2016, parents who experience the stillbirth of a child in Minnesota may be eligible for a refundable credit of $2,000.  To claim this credit, you must file Minnesota Schedule M1PSC, Credit for Parents of Stillborn Children.

Do I qualify?

You may qualify if you meet all of the following requirements:
  • You experienced a stillbirth of a child during the tax year in Minnesota.
  • The Minnesota Department of Health issued a Certificate of Birth Resulting in Stillbirth for your child.
  • You would have been eligible to claim the child as a dependent.

Do I qualify if I am a nonresident or part-year resident?

You may qualify if you meet all of the requirements for the credit even if you are a nonresident or part-year resident. The credit is calculated using the percentage of Minnesota income from Schedule M1NR, Nonresidents/Part-Year Residents.
