Two-step Verification

The Minnesota Department of Revenue added an extra layer of security to our e-Services system.You must now enter a username, password, and a verification code we send you to log in to your account. This is called two-step verification.

Why was it added?

We take the responsibility of protecting your information seriously. Two-step verification adds a second layer of security to prevent unauthorized access to your account. With two-step verification, you select if we send you a security code through a text message or an email.

Two-step verification is becoming an industry standard for protecting data security.

How do I set it up?

You will be required to set up two-step verification the next time you log in to your account. During this log in, the first screen you see will require you to verify your current information and select how you would like us to send verification codes. The set up of two-step verification is complete after you save the information on this screen. You will not be able to complete any other action on your account until this information is saved.

How does it work?

After the initial set up is complete, you must enter a verification code along with your username and password to log in to your account.

  1. Log in with your username and password.
  2. Get your code. We will send you a code using the information you entered when setting up two-step verification.
  3. Enter your code into the Verification Code field.
  4. Select Login.

You will go through this process each time you log in to your account. If you select to remember this computer, you will not be asked for a verification code the next time you log in using that machine.

What if I manage accounts for another business?

Every person using our logged in systems is required to have their own username, even if they are taking actions for another customer. Our 3rd party access process allows you to view accounts associated with another business. Click here to set up 3rd Party Access.
