How to use the Lawful Gambling File Template

If you choose to enter your information into our Excel template and convert the data into a Text (.txt) file, you must follow the layout rules provided in the Lawful Gambling G1 Import File Schema.

How to use the template to create an import file

Open the spreadsheet named Gambling Monthly Tax Return Import File Template which is available on the Filing Electronically webpage.

In line 2, enter the required G1 and Worksheet E information. Use the column descriptions to determine what information you must enter. Net receipts and ER credit (if you reported exempt raffles) will be calculated in e-Services from the data you enter.

Begin to enter the barcode game data in line 4. Use a separate line for each game. All game types and site locations can be included in the same spreadsheet.

Note: Type of operation, type of game and game status codes are found on the second page of the Lawful Gambling G1 Import File Schema.

Text (.txt) file format

Files that are imported into to e-Services must be in a Text (.txt) file format. After you've entered your information in the spreadsheet, you must save it as a Comma Delimited (.csv) file and then convert it into a .txt  file using Notepad.

To do this

  1. Delete rows one and three which contain the header detail. The only information in your file should be the data you entered.
  2. Save the file as a .csv file. Click on File>Save As.  In the Save as type: drop down, select CVS (Comma delimited) and click Save.
  3. Close the Excel file.
  4. Open the .csv  file in Notepad. Find the file, right click on the file name and select the Open with>Notepad.
  5. Click Save, to save it as a .txt file.

Remember to keep a copy of the spreadsheet in case you need to file an amended return in the future.
