Trainee Registration

Individuals who have started working for an assessor and doing assessment work are required to register with the Board within 30 days of hire. This registration allows us to help track the progress of meeting the requirements necessary for licensure.

Trainee Requirements:

  • Employment Verification Letter - A letter verifying the start date and a brief description of the job duties. The letter must be signed by either a licensed supervisor or county assessor.

Trainee Application is located on the Assessors Licensing System. You will need to either sign in or create an account to access the application and pay the application fee. Trainee applications are not required to be reviewed by the board for approval, the application will be approved as soon as they are reviewed by the board’s program administrator.

Note: You will be required by Minnesota Statute, section 270.48 to become licensed within three years of the date you started working for an assessor.

Temporary Licenses

Certified General Fee Appraiser: Minnesota fee appraisers who are licensed as Certified General Appraisers by the Department of Commerce to appraise all property types may qualify for a temporary license.

Temporary License Requirements:

  • A copy of the Certified General Appraisers license
  • Education transcript listing courses taken to receive the Certified General Appraisers license
  • Employment Verification Letter - A letter verifying the start date and a brief description of the job duties. The letter must be signed by either a licensed supervisor or county assessor.

Temporary License Application is located on the Assessors Licensing System. You will need to either sign in or create an account to access the application and pay the application fee. All Temporary License applications are reviewed by the board for approval at the next board meeting.

Note: The temporary license expires on the second June 30 after issuance, or after permanent license is obtained, whichever occurs first. The requirements for obtaining the Accredited Minnesota Assessors (AMA) licensure begins the date the temporary license is issued.
