ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Revenue announced that the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office recently charged Angelo Maurice Wagner, of Minneapolis, with:

• Five felony counts of failing to file sales and use tax returns
• Five felony counts of failing to pay sales and use tax
• Two felony counts of failing to file individual income tax returns
• Two felony counts of failing to pay individual income tax

According to the complaint, Mr. Wagner owns a janitorial business, Clean Committed Inc., that performs taxable cleaning services in Minnesota. Mr. Wagner allegedly failed to collect sales tax on transactions made by his business. The complaint states that despite receiving multiple letters from the department and speaking with department representatives about filing sales and use tax returns and paying sales tax, Mr. Wagner failed to do so for tax years 2019 through 2023. 

Mr. Wagner also allegedly failed to file his individual income tax return and pay income tax for tax years 2021 and 2022 despite previously filing income tax returns and telling his tax preparer that he knew he was delinquent on his income tax filings. 

Mr. Wagner allegedly owes more than $88,000 in sales and income taxes.

Each tax-related felony charge carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison, a $10,000 fine, or both. Defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

Although most taxpayers comply with tax laws voluntarily, the department takes enforcement action against noncompliant taxpayers to ensure that tax laws are administered fairly.
