Filing a Homeowner's Homestead Credit Refund
File online for free: If you meet certain qualifications, file for free using our Property Tax Refund Online Filing System (for homeowners only). As you complete your return, you can select the “Save and Finish Later” button to save your return for up to 14 days. For more information about our free online filing system, watch our video.
File through a software product: Contact customer support for your software product to see if they can electronically file the property tax refund.
File by paper: Use Form M1PR, Homestead Credit Refund (for Homeowners) and Renter's Property Tax Refund. Follow the instructions for Form M1PR when filling out the form. Mail your completed return to:

What is the filing due date?
August 15. If the due date falls on a weekend or legal holiday, your return is due by the next business day.
You may file Form M1PR and claim a refund for up to one year after the original due date. If you file later, you will not receive a refund.
How can I check the status of my refund?
Use our Where’s My Refund? system after July 1 to check the status of your refund.
