Abstracts are summaries of real and personal property value collected by the counties. This data helps the Minnesota Department of Revenue analyze trends, ensure the property tax system is functioning the way the law intends, and allows us to model proposed changes in the system. We also use abstracts to report how much we reimburse cities and counties to pay for property tax credits, and to determine disaster aid distribution, among other things.
Besides the department, users include legislative researchers, state auditors, the media, the University of Minnesota, the League of Minnesota Cities, and other public organizations.
