  • Will penalty and interest continue to accrue while the abatement request is being reviewed?Back to top

Yes, penalty and interest will continue to accrue on the debt until the matter has been resolved.  If the original penalty and interest is abated, the additional penalty and interest will be waived.

  • Can I check the status of an abatement request while it is in process?Back to top

There is not a way to check the status of an abatement request. The amount of time to process abatement requests varies depending on the issues involved. You will be notified when a decision has been made regarding your abatement request.

  • If I had penalties in the past, can they be reduced?Back to top

Abatement requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. If the penalty and interest is abated ("forgiven"), they will be removed in their entirety for that specific period.
