    When the U.S. Census Bureau updates its State Government Tax Collections, State & Local Government Tax Collections, or its State Population estimates, or when the Bureau of Economic Analysis updates its state Annual Personal Income data.​

  • What is the data source for calculating rankings?Back to top

    Rankings are based on population estimates and tax collection data from state and local government finance reports from the U.S. Census Bureau, and personal income data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis.​

  • Why are state and local tax rankings not available for FY 2001 and FY 2003?Back to top

    The U.S. Census Bureau did not publish local government finance data by states for FY 2001 and FY 2003.  However, state tax collections are available for each year.​

  • How will I know when the Tax Rankings have been updated.Back to top
