  • Will penalty and interest continue to accrue while the abatement is being reviewed?Back to top

    Yes, penalty and interest will continue to accrue until the matter has been resolved.  If the original penalty and interest is abated, the additional penalty and interest will be waived.​

  • Can I check the status of an abatement request while it is in process?Back to top

    No.  The time it takes to process abatement requests varies depending on the issues involved.  You will be notified when a decision has been made regarding your abatement request.​

  • Is the sixty day period from the date I received the bill or the date it was sent?Back to top

    The appeal period starts sixty days from the date the bill was sent by the department.​

  • Can penalties be reduced but not completely removed if I have had penalties in the past?Back to top

    Abatement requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.  If the penalty and interest is removed, it will be removed in its entirety for that specific period.  ​

  • If my case is in collections, should I contact them for an abatement request?Back to top

    Yes, you should contact the Collection Division.​
